A visually arresting piece of Soviet World War II commemorative art — an original vintage propaganda poster published to celebrate ДЕНЬ ПОБЕДЫ / 9 МАЯ (Victory Day / May 9th), the annual Soviet holiday marking Nazi Germany’s capitulation to the Soviet Union. Given the stark architectural minimalism, heavy block lithograph typography, and graphic colour-blocking that replaced earlier painterly realism, this rare medium-format print is attributed to the late 1970s or early 1980s on stylistic grounds. Artist unknown; unsigned.

The composition is a masterclass in late-Soviet graphic minimalism. A circular aperture at the centre frames a dramatic rendering of the Reichstag building in Berlin, the iconic red victory flag raised on its roof — a direct reference to the Raising a Flag over the Reichstag, one of the most powerful symbols of the end of World War II in Europe. Below the central lens, a deep red silhouette of the building bleeds into a vast field of saturated crimson, contrasted by a bold graphic sweep of the black-and-orange Ribbon of Saint George — the traditional Soviet and Russian symbol of military valour — across the lower-left corner. The clean white Cyrillic lettering for “9 МАЯ” anchors the composition with immense graphic weight.
