A visually explosive artifact of late-Soviet graphic design — an original May Day propaganda poster from the mid-to-late 1970s, bearing the legendary three-word slogan “МИР • ТРУД • МАЙ” (“Peace • Labor • May”), produced by the Soviet state publishing system during the Brezhnev era.

The composition marks a decisive shift away from the stern, painterly Socialist Realism of earlier decades. In its place: flat colour blocks, clean ink overlays, and sharp stylised line work — the graphic language of the mid-to-late 1970s Plakat school at its most confident. The central image presents idealised profile portraits of young workers gazing toward a bright future against an industrial architectural skyline. To the right, a heavy geometric block carries the slogan in bold Cyrillic typography that functions as a design element in its own right. To the left, a festival of international solidarity — crowds holding May Day banners in Russian, English, French, and German — frames the composition with a rare multilingual openness that speaks directly to the USSR’s self-image as the vanguard of global working-class unity. The primary reds, yellows, and oranges are saturated and vivid, the palette of optimism. The artist is unknown; the work is unsigned. Given the distinct shift toward vibrant graphic illustration over rigid realism, the print is attributed to the mid-to-late 1970s Soviet Plakat era on stylistic grounds. Its horizontal format — 65 × 40 cm — is unusual and makes it a striking focal point over a sideboard, desk, or within a gallery wall.
