Original 1975 Soviet May Day Propaganda Poster – "Decisions of the 25th CPSU Congress into Life!" – 67 × 78 cm / 26.4 × 30.7 in
This is an original 1975 Soviet May Day propaganda poster, issued to mark 1 May — the Day of International Workers’ Solidarity (1 Мая — День международной солидарности трудящихся). A complex, multi-panel composition built around a massive crimson numeral “1”, it is Socialist Realism at its most architecturally ambitious — weaving together May Day solidarity motifs with the contemporary Brezhnev-era directive to implement the decisions of the 25th Congress of the CPSU and the 10th Five-Year Plan.
The design unfolds across four distinct visual zones: a global sphere enveloped in cherry blossoms symbolising peaceful international cooperation; the central directive text «РЕШЕНИЯ XXV СЪЕЗДА КПСС — В ЖИЗНЬ!» set above a blue industrial blueprint; a colossal worker carrying a red banner bearing the profiles of Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin; and a multi-national solidarity handshake anchored by the slogan «МИР, ТРУД, МАЙ». The Kremlin’s Spasskaya Tower and construction cranes complete the iconographic programme.
In the Soviet state publishing system, large political campaigns were planned well in advance. Because the 25th Party Congress was scheduled for February 1976, publishing houses such as «Plakat» began printing preparatory agitation materials throughout late 1975 — ensuring workplaces and cities across the USSR were fully decorated with the directive slogan the moment the event began. This poster dates to that preparatory print run.
